Spoiler alert! (ish)
Kate Henry is a 20-something woman who moved across the country after college to be close to her best friends (Rick and Amy) and their young children (Parker and Todd). She took a job managing a bookstore called The Bestselling Dwelling, owned by Amy’s sophisticated yet spunky grandmother, Meredith. Kate filled her days with her work, trying out new recipes for her friends, and talking to inanimate objects – but there was a yearning that was starting to develop inside her for something more. For a great adventure.
Kate’s close friend from college, Ian, was just finishing up law school and had taken a job at a firm in Raleigh, not far from Kate’s new home of Rocky Mount. In school they had been inseparable, but they had never crossed the friendship line into anything more. Kate and Ian picked up where they had left off and began to spend a great deal of time together. Kate took charge of decorating his apartment, helped him host Thanksgiving for his family, and was shocked when Ian surprised her by showing up at her mom’s house in California on Christmas Eve. She was enjoying the close bond that looked like a relationship, smelled like a relationship, but wasn’t quite a relationship, but knew that it couldn’t go on like that forever. When Kate finally mustered up the courage to have the dreaded DTR talk with Ian, she ended up storming out of his apartment in tears.
Trying to get over a broken heart, Kate agreed to go on a weekend getaway to the beach with Rick and Amy and two other friends from the group, Brooke and Darren. At the last minute, Darren’s brother Ben decided to come along on the trip, and he and Kate hit it off right away. Sparks flew all weekend long, and resulted in the beginning of a whirlwind romance. Ben was exciting and spontaneous, and Kate was refreshed by having a man in her life who seemed to be the total opposite of reserved and hard-to-read Ian. Ben loved to poke fun at Kate, and he always kept her on her toes.
An unexpected tragedy that brought Kate back to California suddenly coincided with Ben going MIA. Kate needed his support while she dealt with this tragedy, but he was nowhere to be found. After going home to Rocky Mount, Darren had to break the news to his good friend that his brother Ben had started dating someone else. Devastated and confused, Kate began to wonder if she was meant to be alone. Scarred by a father who had abandoned her at a young age and broken by the two most recent men in her life, Kate then closed herself off to the idea that anyone could ever truly love her.
When Ian came around again after months of silence, Kate was caught off-guard. She was angry at him and didn’t think she could forgive him, and was afraid to let him back into her life. But he was determined. Without her, he felt empty and he made up his mind to find a way back to her. Kate cautiously agreed to rekindle the friendship, and soon found herself in the same routines of the past. The only difference now was that hope had been replaced by self-doubt, and she accepted this strange companionship with Ian as the best she would ever get.
When Ian’s firm sent him to Paris on a business trip, he extended the offer to Kate for her to accompany him. Ignoring the advice from her well-meaning friends, Kate decided to go with Ian. With the advice from her friends still ringing in her ears, and her own thoughts racing through her brain, Kate encountered an older French couple (with a dog named George Clooney) on a solitary walk along the Seine while Ian was in a business meeting. After opening up to them and listening to their simple advice, Kate was more conflicted than ever. Ian, too, had begun to wonder if perhaps he had gotten it wrong all along and Kate was the one for him.
More will take you to the top of the Eiffel Tower, to a wedding in a garden, to a cemetary, to a romantic walk on the beach – but it will also take you to places less recognizable through sight. It will take you to the place inside every human being that wonders if they deserve unconditional love. It will take you to the place of trying to understand why God’s plan sometimes seemingly defies our desires for our lives. Most importantly, it will take you to the place where you decide if you’re ready for something more.

Great work! hope to read a new one soon!!! all the thoughts of Kate described a lot of us girls. even though I’ve been married for over 10 years, I still remember those feelings, you hit the nail right on the head! I loved “More”. Not only did it make me laugh so hard I about peed my pants, it also reminded me of my “guy” friends and relationships growing up. Just like Kate, I found out the hard way that guys and girls just can’t be friends. I look forward to reading “Yolanda” or whatever title it claims as soon as it is offered on Amazon.com. Thanks for the laughs!
