Heidi was born in the Bay Area of California and had somewhat of an unusual childhood, although it seemed normal to her at the time. Her parents were live-in houseparents at a boarding school in San Jose, and for the first 9 years of her life she lived in a small apartment (which was really just several converted dorm rooms) at the end of the boys’ dormitory. It was a big change for Heidi to move to a big house on 14 acres in the country in central California near Yosemite – especially going from walking out her front door and already being at school, to having to take an hour long bus ride to get to the nearest school, which was 20 miles away on winding country roads. If only Sudoku had been popular back then…those bus rides could have been a lot more interesting!

Heidi left the boonies for college at Azusa Pacific University near Pasadena, CA. She majored in Music Education and was supposed to minor in history. (Funny story – in those days, instead of looking up your grades online, you would call a phone number and enter your student ID at the end of the semester to hear your grades. When Heidi found out she got a D in her first history class, she quickly dropped her minor. It wasn’t until years later than Heidi discovered she misheard the phone voice. She had actually gotten a B. Perhaps the phone voice should have said something like “D, as in Drop your minor” and “B, as in Buy your books for your next history class because you are not a moron.) Heidi was involved in many performing groups at APU, including choir, orchestra, band, and brass quintet. Although she loved music and graduated with honors, the classroom definitely wasn’t calling out to her and upon graduation, she accepted a position in the Registrar’s Office at her alma mater.

Through the years, Heidi has worked her way up the ranks and is now the Assistant Registrar at APU. She loves how her job utilizes both her love for organization and love for people. She completed a Master’s degree in Business (Human Resource and Organizational Development) in 2009. Although she works hard, if you walk into her office you might find her reading her book of Deep Thoughts by Jack Handey, giving relationship advice to a coworker, or deviously planning the next practical joke in the office. In 2011 Heidi left her job at APU to move back in with her parents in central California. You can make fun of her all you want, but she thinks saving up for a down payment on a house is pretty dang smart, so there.

Heidi’s hobbies include traveling (especially cruises), reading, writing, getting obsessed with tv shows, scrapbooking, memorizing movie quotes, playing Scrabble, getting places early, trying to convert people to the iPhone, enjoying a good cup of coffee, and spending time with friends. Born with a quick wit and sense of humor, Heidi loves to make people laugh.

As an INFJ, who are sometimes described as having a rich and complex inner life, Heidi discovered that the best way to let others in on this sometimes hidden part of her personality is through the written word. Heidi has been writing since childhood, but it wasn’t until her adult years that she accepted the idea that writing is what she was born to do. She has the ability to draw readers into a world of fiction and both tug at their heartstrings and make them laugh out loud. She writes contemporary fiction (usually with a dash of romance), as well as personal reflection essays/articles that focus on the faith and learning that comes from everyday life (typically with a pinch of humor).

Heidi’s first novel, More, is currently available on Lulu.com, the iBookstore, Barnes&Noble.com, and Amazon.com. She is currently writing her second novel, which doesn’t have a title yet, so she refers to it affectionately as “Yolanda”.

Above all, Heidi is so grateful to have a relationship with God, and knows that her faith is the driving force behind all that she does.

She also really hates writing about herself in the third person. I mean really, who am I kidding? Like I hired someone to write this for me? Psh.
